Flowers, leaves and fruit | Mostly dioecious, having male and female flowers on separate plants. The open white flowers are 6-petalled with a purple nectary band near the centre. Flowering occurs from July to September. The fleshy, linear leaves are sheathed and spread up the stem. |
Growing conditions | Prefers well-drained soils or seasonally moist soils in a full-sun or part-shade position. Plants will die back to a tuber in summer and reshoot in autumn. |
